9.28.20: RRLL --> CARL

Image
  ^ the 4 initials of my girl gang in Rhode island and now in CT!  Ok, i'm in Connecticut of all places. My new companion sister simpson and i went for a run on our first day and we saw THREE BEARS. Our apartment complex is right next to a forest and a little trail! They were small bears but it was so crazy.  We live with two other sisters (sister Tuttle and Potter!) which is so much fun! Especially during quarantine. The weather has been SO NICE here and the leaves are changing colors. We have been doing a lot of studying and calling outside. Connecticut is v underrated.  We got to go to church! We are technically in an English ward, but there are 8 missionaries in it (6 Portuguese and 2 English) bc they want to start a Portuguese group! We got to introduce ourselves in the ward in English and I felt like all the missionaries I had seen when i was a kid. Kind of weird.  The day of transfers was probably one of the weirdest days of my mission, and my last day wi...

9.21.20: Pawtucket --> ♡ford, CT

  I got transferred! I am going to Hartford, Connecticut. I have been in Rhode Island this whole time so it will be interesting to see something new! I am sad to leave @Sister Kent, Russon and Sorge. RIP colegas.  Our friend Helder hasn't talked with us for about 2 weeks bc he has some crazy things going on in his life and the other day I decided to text him and then he said we could call him right then, so we did. We were able to help him feel better and he decided he is going to keep talking to us again, which made me so happy!  This week we got to help this family who owns a library/skatepark. They have a ton of donated books, so they have kids come and read for an hour and then they get to skate for an hour. We mopped all the skate ramps bc it's indoor and then dusted all the bookshelves. They are so Cool!  I have officially cut everyone's hair who lives in my apartment! I have no idea why they trust me to do that, but I guess I'm saying that if anyone ever needs...

9.7.20: WE WENT TO CHURCH- sort of

Image
The branch President had all 6 missionaries in our branch, plus one recent convert, and our friend William who we are teaching, all come to the chapel on Sunday to do a "practice run" for when they open the church again in October. It was weird bc we had a zoom going at the same time so some of the speakers were on a computer and you couldn't hear that well, but it was the first time I've been to church since March (when I was still in Brasil RIP).  We have been calling a lot of less active or unknown people on our ward list to help update the records and this one man was so funny:  Me: Hi, it's the sister missionaries, how are you?  Carlos: I quit  Me: um what does that mean?  Carlos: I'm not a member anymore, I quit  Everyone pray for Carlos (and all of us) not to quit.  We also had our English class again this week and the teacher (a member named Ben) got called out by one of our friends!  Ben: ok we are going to do a practice conversation, hi,...

8.31.20: 99 To Go

Image
It's a tradition in this mission to take a picture at this restaurant called 99, when you have 99 more days of your mission. It was kind of funny bc I just walked in and said "can I have a to-go box please?" The lady looked so confused but she gave me one and then we left!  Scarlet!  We were teaching a lady named Roxy who didn't really seem all that interested in what we had to say, so we asked her if she knew anyone that might like a message about Jesus Christ. She told us she has a friend named Scarlet who would and we told her to send us her contact! We called scarlet and got a whole (CRAZY) life story. Scarlet was so happy to hear from us and so excited to start changing her life. We did have to transfer her to the English elders, but she is already way happier and the elders love teaching her!  Helder!  We taught Helder about living prophets this week and we read a quote from President Nelson about learning how to receive personal revelation. He thought it was s...

8.24.20: Je suis Sister Barton

Image
  Update:  Helder  Our friend Helder is doing so good! We gave him another BOM in English and he reads the chapter in Portuguese before our lesson and then we read with him in English. He is basically fluent but he wants help learning more English. We invited him to pray about a baptismal date and he told us he definitely would!  Lucas Our friend Lucas is also doing good. We have been teaching him for a while now. We are almost done teaching him everything and the other day we invited him to put a picture of Jesus as his screensaver and he did it immediately and sent us a screenshot. (Attached) We set up an English class with a few of our friends and asked a guy in the English ward to teach it. It is SO FUNNY to watch and we just get to sit there and watch and translate sometimes when they are confused. It is definitely a highlight and makes us laugh so hard. I finished reading the New Testament this week for the first time in my life and it was really cool! It gave ...

8.17.20: "It's Original Flooring"

Image
  ^this week we got a noise complaint from the people who live below us, so we went down to the office to ask what time they said it was loud. I explained that we didn't do anything particularly obnoxious (not gonna deny we can be kinda loud sometimes) but, ALSO the floor is SUPER uneven and creaky in our house. The lady said "well, yeah it's original flooring". This was kind of annoying bc we live in a cottonmill from the industrial revolution so our "original flooring" was definitely the problem. We decided it's a scam. Last Monday we went to a really cool lighthouse and this field full of sunflowers. It was so nice to be outside all day and since it's SO muggy here, the wind at the beach was super nice.  On Wednesday we did virtual divisions (where we switch companions for a few hours, but we are still teaching on video calls). We talked to our friend Helder and the week before sister Kent and I had dropped off a bible and a book of Mormon to him....
