8.24.20: Je suis Sister Barton
Update:
Helder
Our friend Helder is doing so good! We gave him another BOM in English and he reads the chapter in Portuguese before our lesson and then we read with him in English. He is basically fluent but he wants help learning more English. We invited him to pray about a baptismal date and he told us he definitely would!
Lucas
Our friend Lucas is also doing good. We have been teaching him for a while now. We are almost done teaching him everything and the other day we invited him to put a picture of Jesus as his screensaver and he did it immediately and sent us a screenshot. (Attached)
We set up an English class with a few of our friends and asked a guy in the English ward to teach it. It is SO FUNNY to watch and we just get to sit there and watch and translate sometimes when they are confused. It is definitely a highlight and makes us laugh so hard.
I finished reading the New Testament this week for the first time in my life and it was really cool! It gave me an even greater appreciation for the simplicity of the Book of Mormon.
We also went to a family in the English ward's house. It was so nice to see people in person, but we were sitting outside and all that. They told us their whole conversion story and it was so crazy! The next day our mission sent an email saying we actually aren't allowed to go to members' houses even if we sit outside, so I guess that was a one time thing. Oops
Ok, everyone needs to look up this talk called "Self worth" by Hyrum W Smith. I have no idea where to actually find it but it is SO AMAZING. He obviously talks about self worth but he gives this whole theory that has to do with our needs and beliefs which leads to our actions and the results in our life. He is a really good speaker and he tells a lot of cool stories. It's over an hour long but perfect to listen to while you are doing something else. It's so long but one of those talks that when it's over you actually wish it was longer.
Grateful: the scriptures, good weather this week, not dying in a car crash (people here are crazy drivers), duolingo (I started learning french and my comps think it's so funny, hence the email title), all of our friends progressing (:
