9.7.20: WE WENT TO CHURCH- sort of
The branch President had all 6 missionaries in our branch, plus one recent convert, and our friend William who we are teaching, all come to the chapel on Sunday to do a "practice run" for when they open the church again in October. It was weird bc we had a zoom going at the same time so some of the speakers were on a computer and you couldn't hear that well, but it was the first time I've been to church since March (when I was still in Brasil RIP).
We have been calling a lot of less active or unknown people on our ward list to help update the records and this one man was so funny:
Me: Hi, it's the sister missionaries, how are you?
Carlos: I quit
Me: um what does that mean?
Carlos: I'm not a member anymore, I quit
Everyone pray for Carlos (and all of us) not to quit.
We also had our English class again this week and the teacher (a member named Ben) got called out by one of our friends!
Ben: ok we are going to do a practice conversation, hi, my name is Susan, what's your name?
Jose: woah woah Ben! why you usin that name?! it's not fair, just say Ben ok
We have been helping our friend Any with her CNA course (she needs help with English) so we do her homework with her sometimes. She was reading us one of the chapters and she said "what is buttocks? It keeps talking about this." My comp thought she was saying Botox, haha but then we told her. It is so impressive to me that she is doing a technical course in her second language!
Last funny thing: our fire alarm was beeping one night so we had to get it off the ceiling (but they are super tall ceilings) so we got a huge dresser, like 20 come follow me books and our tallest comp who lives with us and she stood on top of the books on top of the dresser on her tip toes and had to rip the fire alarm off the ceiling and off the wires bc it wouldn't stop beeping even after taking out the battery, only after setting it off like 4 times.
Good quotes + scriptures:
"I feel a certain sadness for those who do not grasp and appreciate the wonder and privilege of the priesthood (gospel). They are like passengers on an airplane who spend their time grumbling about the size of the packet of peanuts while they are soaring through the air, far above the clouds—something ancient kings would have given all they possessed to try and experience just once!" Uchtdorf
Alma 37: 45-46
45 For just as surely as this director (talking about the liahona) did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.
46 O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever
(READ THIS ONE EVEN IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE):
"It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which . . . you would be strongly tempted to worship. . . . There are no ordinary people."
C.S. Lewis
Sorry that was really long
Tchau tchau,
