11.11.19: Uba-Chuva
^^It has been raining for like 5 days straight
{Apparently "Chuva" means rain in Portuguese. Thank you, Google!}
this week in bad english clothing:
a ladies t-shirt "CALL MY AGENT" (so random).
Also, "I did not mean to offend you that was just a bonus"
There's a missionary couple here in our area that lives in the same apartment building as us. We don't have a water filter in our apt so we go there a few times a week to fill up water. They are super funny and the husband is really oblivious and the wife just orders him around and I die every time I see them. She was trying to tell us a story and her husband started talking and she shushed him for like 20 seconds straight " shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hh, let me tell the story, Elder." And my comp and I could not keep it together. They were so confused why were laughing.
We asked him to install a fire alarm for us a few days ago and they came to our apt to do it and he chose where to put it and then he asked us for something to stand on to reach the ceiling. he is pretty short so he couldn't reach. I stood on the chair and I could reach so he handed me this saw thing to drill holes in the ceiling and install the alarm, but he was explaining everything in Portuguese and I was pretty confused but I was just doing what I thought he was saying but I didn't really know. I guess the next time someone needs a fire alarm installed I've got you covered. It's a good thing I'm basically a boy scout, thanks Dad.
This week two different times my companion and I made the mistake of asking someone if they wanted to pray at the end of a lesson. One of the times was this lady from a religion that prays with a veil and she said a super long prayer and was yelling a little bit. The other time we had to stand in a circle holding hands and somehow we ended up teaching a guy and his ex-wife who are neighbors, and the guy started the prayer and then the ex wife started talking and they both were just saying stuff about the other person indirectly like "please bless those people that don't understand spiritual things that they can have more knowledge and that they can forgive me if I said something to offend them" (the ex wife was totally just slamming him during her whole prayer bc he doesn't really understand very much) it was so painful and lasted for like 10 minutes.
Another prayer story:
we taught this guy named Americo and after I said a prayer and I said "please bless Americano" which is the word for a person from the US. oops
spiritual thought:
this week I was reading in Alma when Ammon converts king Lamoni through his example and his service. One verse says "he saw that the countenance of the king was changed."
i realized that we can help people change and be more converted to the gospel through our examples and our service and not just by telling them "you need to change" bc nobody wants to hear that.
tchau,
