8.10.20: No effort is Wasted

 This week we got to have zone conference IN PERSON which was actually so nice. I have seen a lot of missionaries on zoom and Facebook videos but we finally got to meet people IN PERSON! We talked a lot about how to make online lessons more engaging and find out what people really need. We also talked a lot about how to make our Facebook page better which was really funny because I felt like I was in a marketing meeting or something. 


Sister Kent and I were asked to to talk for 5 mins about how "no effort is wasted", it was really cool to prepare for it and we shared 1 Corinthians 3:6-9 if you want to go look it up it's pretty fire. Anyways, we don't always see the fruit of our efforts but as we know "the Lord loves effort". WELL, he let us know that our efforts aren't wasted because 6 of our friends watched our church zoom meeting on Sunday and it was a miracle. If you looked up the scripture you'll get it but "Barton planted, Kent watered and GOD GAVE THE INCREASE" 

There was a "hurricane" warning which was exciting, but it was pretty much just a ton of wind. The next day there were just a lot of leaves and trash everywhere. 

We had a devotional and this lady who is a famous artist taught us about something called sketch notes. It's basically writing in different fonts and adding pictures or figures to your notes to make them more interesting. We used it to do a lesson about the armor of God for a family with 4 kids and they really liked it and all drew very impressive armor of God soldiers. 

Sister Kent and I decided to read the Pearl of Great Price together and we finished it this week. I think I have said this before but everyone NEEDS. to read Joseph Smith history if they haven't in the last 3 months. It is SO COOL. Specifically this part at the very end that Oliver Cowdery wrote. 

Last week we were teaching this man that is going through a lot of hard things and we really wanted to find this video about a currant bush. We finallly found it after a long time so I figured I would share it:

1 Peter 4:12-14

12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified

I love the part that says it is not strange to have trials. A lot of times we get so surprised when hard things happen even though we all know they are a part of life.

11.11.19: Uba-Chuva

^^It has been raining for like 5 days straight  {Apparently "Chuva" means rain in Portuguese. Thank you, Google!} this week in bad english clothing: a ladies t-shirt "CALL MY AGENT" (so random). Also, "I did not mean to offend you that was just a bonus"  There's a missionary couple here in our area that lives in the same apartment building as us. We don't have a water filter in our apt so we go there a few times a week to fill up water. They are super funny and the husband is really oblivious and the wife just orders him around and I die every time I see them. She was trying to tell us a story and her husband started talking and she shushed him for like 20 seconds straight " shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hh, let me tell the story, Elder."  And my comp and I could not keep it together. They were so confused why were laughing.  We asked him to install a fire alarm for us a few days ago and they came to our apt to do it ...

11.2.20: The "Lasts" Begin

  My last zone conf was underwhelming and over zoom, am I surprised at this point?  Some gold quotes from it:  "Pull your chair up to the lord's table and pull a chair up for a friend too" prez mav "It feels so good to do the right things for the right reasons"  We went back to the farm w/Bobby. Sis Simp and I pretty much carried pallets to a dumpster and then chucked them into the dumpster. It was a good time.  Our ward had a drive thru Halloween party and our friend Keity came with her 3 kids! It was fun to see all the ward members and me and my comps dressed up as the wizard of oz. I was the lion and Simp was Dorothy. Pretty legit for a missionary costume I guess.  We finally talked to Debbie! (The neighbor whose mail we got). It was #worththewait bc she is going through some rough stuff and really liked talking to us! We are hopefully meeting again on Wednesday!  I shared my departing testimony at our mission fast Sunday devotional which felt weird...

9.21.20: Pawtucket --> ♡ford, CT

  I got transferred! I am going to Hartford, Connecticut. I have been in Rhode Island this whole time so it will be interesting to see something new! I am sad to leave @Sister Kent, Russon and Sorge. RIP colegas.  Our friend Helder hasn't talked with us for about 2 weeks bc he has some crazy things going on in his life and the other day I decided to text him and then he said we could call him right then, so we did. We were able to help him feel better and he decided he is going to keep talking to us again, which made me so happy!  This week we got to help this family who owns a library/skatepark. They have a ton of donated books, so they have kids come and read for an hour and then they get to skate for an hour. We mopped all the skate ramps bc it's indoor and then dusted all the bookshelves. They are so Cool!  I have officially cut everyone's hair who lives in my apartment! I have no idea why they trust me to do that, but I guess I'm saying that if anyone ever needs...
