7.20.20: Pawtucktuck
My old companion Sister Lawlor (lala) got transferred out of our area and her comp. Sister Sorge got a new one, only after two weeks! So now there are 4 of us that live together and all of us are recycled from Brasil. I have been here the longest out of all 4 of us which is hilarious bc it's only been 6 weeks or so. We just talk about Brasil all the time and laugh about how weird this is that we are all here now.
On Monday we decided that we were gonna go to the Cheesecake Factory bc we called them and they said we could actually go in and sit down. So that's pretty much all that happened on Monday, but it was so nice to feel kind of normal!
This week was pretty much the same: lots of phone calls, video calls, Facebook finding, zoom meetings, Zumba, daily walks and lots of good laughs.
One of my favorite things about doing everything over zoom is the fact that a lot of the time we are muted so sister Kent and I just make random commentary and try not to laugh too hard on camera. We have to stay sane somehow.
On sunday I hit 13 months and my companions decided we were gonna celebrate so we went and got vegan ice cream for dinner on Saturday night!
Here's the spiritual <fire> part:
"...for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content"
^LOVE this so much and super relevant right now.
"His hand is stretched out still"
^this phrase is repeated a lot in 2 Nephi when Isaiah is quoted and I love it bc God NEVER gives up on us no matter how stubborn we are.
The OP
^ok last week I linked three talks and this was one of them! The Other Prodigal by Elder Holland is such a good talk, sister Kent and I made a nickname for it bc we talk abt it so much. It deserves it's own weekly email. This talk is about pride and envy and there are two quotes below but PLEASE JUST GO READ THE WHOLE THING. it's too good I can't hype it up enough.
"One who has heretofore presumably been very happy with his life and content with his good fortune suddenly feels very unhappy simply because another has had some good fortune as well.
Who is it that whispers so subtly in our ear that a gift given to another somehow diminishes the blessings we have received?...it is the father of all lies. It is Lucifer, our common enemy"
"Most “thou shalt not” commandments are meant to keep us from hurting others, but I am convinced the commandment not to covet is meant to keep us from hurting ourselves"
Grateful: lala, Kirsten Berhan! (Thank you so much, you are incredible!), Elder Holland, sitting down and talking at restaurants, the mute button on zoom.
Tchau tchau,
Sister Barton
