3.9.20: Who needs TV when you have Relief Society?!
I don't even know how to explain what went down in RS this week but I can testify that the prophet was inspired to only have RS twice a month. It's basically just a rant sesh with old ladies that forgot all of their social skills and feel like they deserve to talk the whole time. At one point a lady walked out bc her sister was telling her to cork it and at another point one lady walked across the room to hug another lady in front of all of us after thoroughly explaining why she adored being her ministering comp last year. Nada ver. That’s a phrase that means whatever you said or did has nothing to do with what's going on.
But now I'll try to be more missionary for you:
There's a couple here named Regilane and Marcílio and their son Manoel got baptized a month ago. He's 10 and he is so cute. This family is incredible. We are so happy bc they marked a wedding date for April 18 and then, they will get baptized. We had lunch at their house last Sunday and they are literally so awesome. All three of them are reading the BOM and the dad reads in English too. They are the best.
It's definitely harder here to find people to teach. There's a bunch of apartment buildings and everyone here is always “busy.”
We made a poster on international women's day that said “what does it mean to be a virtuous woman?”. And we had people put answers on post-it's. It was a really cool way to get people to stop and talk to us and actually really fun.
Here’s a quote I liked from this week:
“ in African villages one would ask in greeting ‘How are we?’ This understanding sees that someone else's achievement or happiness is in a very real way our own” - Desmond Tutu (the book of joy)
As missionaries the success and happiness of the people we teach and our other missionary friends makes us happy too. I love this so much bc really it should always be like this. In the world there is a lot of jealousy and comparison but if we all looked at other people’s success and happiness as our own we would all be a lot happier. I read a talk about happiness this week that I’ll link:
Everyone needs to read this.
This is another one from Pres Nelson
Prepare for next week bc the next talk is abt gossip and it hit me hard.
Tchau,
Sister Barton
