12.23.19: Feliz Natal
Apparently i wanted to be super festive or something bc I woke up on tuesday with red dots all over my body. It basically looked like chicken pox, we slept in the other sisters' house in our zone to go to the christmas zone conference that morning and they were all freaking out telling me random diseases in portuguese that I might have. I think one of them said zika and i think this other one meant chicken pox, but I had no idea what they were saying. (also I've already had chicken pox so it's all good in the hood) Basically I still have no idea what it was but it's almost gone, so that's a plus.
everyone here rides bikes everywhere. People here have mad skills. I have seen people riding a bike with 3 little kids hanging on to them or in their lap. Also I saw a guy riding a bike with another bike on his shoulder. The best that I've seen is a guy riding a bike with a TREE. Literally, it wasn't that big but it was pretty big. Also it rains a ton here so everyone rides with an umbrella and it's actually life changing. Highly recommend.
Words of wisdom from random talks:
"Everyone has a favorite sin. Give yours to God"
"live in the present. living in the past causes depression, and living in the future causes anxiety. And to God time is all the same...it's now"
"have patience with yourself" (very obvious but also very hard)
"if the spirit speaks to me and I don't obey, why will it speak again?" (Elder Scott)
"When we forget who we are, we forget God"
"The adversary feeds our doubts, while the Savior feeds our faith"
Me: what did you study today?
Comp: I studied about patience and I think it's really hard to have patience.
Also fun fact: my companion and I sang in church, like in the front with everyone watching. FYI this is NOT NORMAL. I personally want to apologize to everyone present.
Fun fact #2: The rumor is true. My comp is Brazilian and she has her own wax to wax her legs. She's legit!
Ubatuba rains a lot. and it is literally not possible to tell when it will be super hot or when it will pour rain and flood the road in less than 10 minutes. It's pretty impressive but also hard to do missionary work. On sunday we left the branch president's house from lunch and in the 7 minute walk i literally was soaked. it looked like i jumped in a pool (I guess as good as it's gonna get for 1.5 yrs).
A really cool experience that we had this week was that the old branch president here had some freak accident and he literally has to be cared for everyday full-time by his wife. It is so hard to see her trying so hard and feeling so many emotions everyday. She asked us to sing christmas hymns for him this sunday. (idk why i have to keep singing haha). It was so cool. I felt so many emotions because she was crying and he was crying. (Afterwards she said that he is better now because before he didn't even cry and she couldn't tell if he was feeling emotions) it was so sad yet so happy at the same time that a small thing we did made them so happy and feel the Savior's love at Christmastime. We bore our testimonies about the plan of salvation and how important it is to have an eternal perspective.
whoa sorry for the super long and super random email.
Feliz Natal!!!!!
This talk is super good: it's called "the character of christ" (Elder Bednar) everyone should read it!
Also this one is "An epistle from an apostle" M. Rusell Ballard
Tchau! Feliz Natal e Próspero Ano Novo

D+C 98:1-3 (just in case you needed it bc I´m pretty sure we all do)
1 Verily I say unto you my friends, afear not, let your hearts be comforted; yea, rejoice evermore, and in everything give bthanks;
2 aWaiting patiently on the Lord, for your prayers have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded with this seal and testament—the Lord hath sworn and decreed that they shall be granted.
3 Therefore, he giveth this promise unto you, with an immutable covenant that they shall be fulfilled; and all things wherewith you have been aafflicted shall work together for your bgood, and to my name’s glory, saith the Lord.
