7.16.19: Avo´s - unfortunately not the kind you eat

So apparently there´s a difference between avô and avó, and you´re supposed to audibly hear the difference and you guys i am telling you THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. I can´t hang. it means grandma and grandpa tho so i am not too worried about that.

my teacher was explaining past tense one class and he drew a conjugation chart on the board. he started to explain how the "shart" showed us all the conjugations and me and this other girl in my district could not keep it in. we were the only ones that couldn´t handle ourselves. we told him how to pronounce chart after our class and the next time we talked about conjugations he called it a table. oops. poor guy.

yesterday, i spoke somente (only) portuguese and it was pretty rough. it involved a lot of hand motions and pointing but we got through it. i guess i have to get used to it though bc i might need to speak portuguese, at least that's what they tell me.

on p day i bought popcorn kernels so i can make popcorn in a brown paper bag. one day i was making popcorn because there's a microwave in the cafeteria and this lady tried to get mad at me but i could not understand her so i just took my pipoca (popcorn) and left bc these other missionaries were telling me to hurry and leave. apparently she came back to take it from me but they told her that they had no idea where i went. they totally told me to leave. i'm just wondering why they have a microwave in this joint if we aren´t supposed to use it.

we went proselyting on saturday which was super bizarre but really fun. i felt so bad bc i could barely understand anyone, but somehow we got 6 people to write down their contact info. idk if they just felt bad for us or what bc i know that i did not make any sense at all. my favorite was these two grandma ladies in front of this nail salon. i just went up to one of them and told her that i loved her matching cheetah print shoes and sweater and she decided that we could talk to them after that. they let us talk to them for like 5 minutes which was a score and then they wrote down their contacts and stuff. right before we left,  i asked them if they were friends and they both looked at me so confused and then said "NO! We are just waiting to get our nails done." they were the real gems of Sao Paulo.

sorry for this extremely uneventful email. an exciting day at the ctm is literally when they have sweet potatoes @ lunch or when they put sesame seeds on the beets. clearly i need to get out of this place.

anyways, here's a really cool scripture that i wanted to share.
1 nephi 18:21
"And it came to pass that i prayed unto the Lord, and after I had prayed the winds did cease and the storm did cease, and there was a great calm."
i know that prayer really works and whenever we are feeling overwhelmed we just need to ask God for help and he can bring us peace. He wants to help us, but He can´t do anything until we ASK HIM!!!
